Jhene Aiko is definitely not new to the music scene. She contributed her vocals to help the R&B group, B2K create their album back in the early 2000's. With her soft sound, and witty lyrical style, Aiko perfectly blurs the lines between R&B and Hiphop with her recent solo offerings, solidifying her as a force in the music fusion revolution. Who would of thought that such a tiny, beautiful mixed woman could break through the longstanding mold of what a music star should look and of course sound like. "While We're Young" is the standout record for us here at Nelum Playlist, and after five months of being released, we still can't get enough. It is such an incredible record that doesn't depend on a larger than life beat or in-your-face vocals. This track and the attention to detail of it's production slowly hypnotizes you, and all of sudden when the song has taken it's course, you snap out of it, unbeknownst to the voodoo that Jhene has administered. Her newest album includes some noteworthy collaborations with the legendary Brandy Norwood on "Ascension" and Mali Music on the album titled track, "Trip." Jhene is everything that the world needs right now! She's honest, relatable, and lovable. She's a hippie who indulges, but doesn't forget her purpose. Paris Hilton is probably somewhere in the Hamptons lighting up, listening to Jhene's "Trip," whispering to herself, "That's hot!"
