We here at Nelum Playlist were able to pull Mr. Drew Allen away from conjuring up the feels just long enough for him to answer a few questions we've been meaning to ask this star on the rise. Exclusive Drew Allen Q&A. @nelum.playlist: What city are you based out of? @iamdrewallen: I'm from Oakland, CA. @nelum.playlist: Who are your musical influences? @iamdrewallen: One of my biggest musical influences is Michael Jackson. In addition to him some of my favorite artists who influence me are Frank Ocean, Miguel, Tori Kelly... a lot of artists. I go through phases of who's influencing me the most so that list always changes. @nelum.playlist: Our team heard and saw the accompanying video of your latest offering, “Sara” and immediately fell in love with your sound. What makes you different from other talent in the running to hopefully become the heir to the male pop/rnb throne? @iamdrewallen: I consider myself an authentic artist. That's no shade on any other artist at all, but just to say that I was basically born in the studio and around music, played instruments all my life, and sang and wrote music since i was 10. Music is a part of my life, not just a hobby. @nelum.playlist: Who produced your “Sara” visual? Describe the process. @iamdrewallen: Glad you guys like that! lol I actually directed that video. My DP, Marco Bercasio shot it. He does great work and I'm very proud of how well the video came out. @nelum.playlist: Can we look forward to a full length album in the near future? Any collaborations in the works? @iamdrewallen: I wouldn't say in the near future for a full album... However, Vol. 2 of "All The Girls I Loved" EP will be dropping soon so there's definitely new music coming soon. @nelum.playlist: How do you get yourself into the creative mood? @iamdrewallen: Most evenings I'm in a creative mood lol so I really don't have to do much, but hearing good instrumentals (beats) will definitely inspire me to want to write. @nelum.playlist: For young artists looking to you for inspiration, can you impart some advice on how to deal with the stress of the industry? @iamdrewallen: There's so much advise I want to give, but for the sake of simplicity, I'd say be consistent with putting out quality music, and as soon as you feel like quitting, just don't! @nelum.playlist: When it comes to food, what’s your weakness? @iamdrewallen: Weakness?... Well I'm not really one for sweets... but brownies get me everytime. Other than that, just in general, I love chicken fettuccini alfredo!!
